General
In Stylo, a distinction is made between images and images in frames.
If you upload an image without selecting a frame, the image will automatically receive a frame.
In older versions, images could also be placed without a frame. These objects can still be used as before. However, such images cannot be specifically swapped via the ServerRenderer, and only images with a frame can be cropped.
If you want to "enhance" such an image without a frame and create a frame, you can use the "Crop Image" function.
Images can typically only be resized proportionally with the mouse by grabbing a corner point and changing the image. The right of an image also allows for non-proportional resizing to be enabled.
Image Formats
The following image formats can be processed in Stylo:
- JPG
- PNG
- GIF
- TIFF
- PSD
- PDF
- JPEG XL
- AVIF
- HEIC
- WEBP
Which image formats can be used by users is generally determined in the administration through the allowed image formats. The configuration in the permission groups can specify which image formats are uploadable.
What other settings can be made for images?
Image Formats
In the Administration under "Image", it can be specified which image formats are allowed to be loaded into Stylo. Note that certain image formats can be prohibited for upload but can still be used through galleries.
In the Configurator , it can be specified which images are allowed for upload for a user group.
Resolution
Through the Administration , it can be set whether a resolution monitoring should take place and if so, with which values. If this is activated (by entering monitoring values greater than 0), the effective image size is considered, not the value that may be noted in the file.
The minimum image resolution must be adhered to. If the threshold is not met, a prohibition sign will be displayed over the image (see the example below the paragraph). If the warning threshold is not met, an exclamation mark on a yellow background will be displayed.
The information is forwarded to the leading system so that it can take appropriate measures through plausibility checks.
File Size for Uploads
Through the Administration , it can also be determined which file size is allowed for an upload. The size is specified in kilobytes.
The image is first uploaded to the server and then checked there. If an exceeding of the maximum value is detected, an error message will be displayed.
Images without Frames
Images can be resized using the grab points or the slider. An image object (without a frame) cannot be swapped via the ServerRenderer, and it is not possible to assign transparency to this object. The image is cropped in this mode only by the frame. If you want to crop an image, select the "Crop Image" function from the context menu.
In addition to the normal settings, the scaling factor can be controlled and set in the settings of an image, define whether it is a placeholder image, whether a direct upload should be allowed, or whether contour sets are permitted. If you assign the image a "Growing Height", the image will be distorted in height. Growing images should always be placed in frames and fitted there.
In newer versions of Stylo, a frame is automatically drawn for imported objects. Only in older objects might you encounter an image without a frame.
Images with Frames
If you have selected an image or a frame, the image will be marked and can be moved within the display with the left mouse button.
Crop Image
Through the context menu, an imported image that was not imported into a frame can be cropped later using the "Crop Image" function. For images that are already in a frame, the selection will change when the function is chosen.
Frame-Image and Mask Selection
The Floating Toolbox is displayed on the image with a slider.
The minimum value for scaling via the slider is specified in the Stylo administration by the value for the maximum image resolution. If this value is not defined, the reduction of the image is limited to a minimum value of 5 percent. The maximum value for scaling via the slider is specified in the Stylo administration by the value for the minimum image resolution. If this value is not defined, the enlargement of the image is limited to a maximum value of 400 percent.
The selection is made using the icons to the right of the slider.
The meaning of the icons from left to right:
- Blue: Marking of the frame. The mask and image are moved together and resized.
- Brown: Marking of the image. Now the image itself can be changed in size and position within the frame.
- Green: Marking of the image mask. The image mask can be adjusted in size and position.
Fit
Through the context menu, the image can be adjusted within a frame. The image must have been selected using the selection mode "Image".
This is a manual process that overrides the automation from the properties menu.
Frame-Filling
The image size is changed proportionally so that the cropping object is completely filled. The image height or width matches the cropping object. The protruding part is centered to the cropping object.
Proportional
The image size is adjusted proportionally to the cropping object. The remaining space in height or width is centered to the cropping object.
Non-Proportional
The image is fitted into the specified frame. The image can also be distorted.
Top Centered
The image size is changed proportionally so that the cropping object is completely filled. However, the image is positioned with its top edge at the top edge of the mask.
Align
This dialog allows images to be aligned within the frame. The specifications always refer to the image position within the cropping area. Vertical and horizontal spacing act additively to the position specifications in horizontal and vertical. Images can also be aligned relatively within their frame. To do this, the checkbox "Anchor" must be activated.
Basically, the functionality corresponds to that of the Align Dialog of the program.
