Text frames can be connected to each other so that the text flows around in case of an overflow. You can also select an existing text box and split it into multiple text boxes, where in this case it is automatically ensured that a connection is established – in other words, a text flow link is created.
Linked text frames are marked as a graphic object when selected or when the cursor is placed in the text frame by connected guide lines.
Connecting Text Frames
This function allows two text frames to be connected in such a way that the text subsequently flows from the first selected text box (where the action was also triggered) to the second text box. The function can be found in the context menu of a text frame.
Settings can then be made in the Object Properties and the Text Flow Dialog.
Procedure
- Select the outgoing text box.
- Open the context menu (usually by right-clicking).
- Select the "Chain" function.
- Then you can select the target.
- After that, you will see a thin blue line indicating the connection.
Break Chain
This function can separate an existing link to a subsequent text frame. In this case, the function is available in the context menu.
Procedure
- Select the text frames whose connection to the subsequent text frame should be broken.
- Open the context menu and select "Break Chain."
Split Text Frames
This function is used to split a text frame into multiple text frames that are connected to each other. This allows for quick creation of a column layout. Individual text frames are created that can be freely adjusted in both position and size.
Once you have split the text frames, the settings cannot be changed via the dialog. If you want to change the number of columns, you would first need to undo the split and then perform the action again.
When you call the function, the following dialog appears:
Name
Text flow name of the linked text frames.
Number of Columns
Number of columns to be created.
Column Spacing
Space between the created text frames.
Minimum Height
Specify the minimum height for the created text frames.
