If you take an object within a display, it cannot be positioned outside the display area with the mouse by default. It gets cut off at the edge of the display. In this mode, it is possible to position objects outside the display – but only if the position is set using values. This makes it difficult to recognize that there are still objects outside the display and to select them.
At this point, the "Mounting Area" function comes into play, which can be activated via the display menu in the toolbar. When this is active, the display is centered, leaving space around the display to place objects. You can easily place them on the area with the mouse.
The objects are displayed there with a slight transparency.
When the display is output, the objects on the mounting area are not visible – neither in an exported PDF nor in an SVG.
The mounting area is set via the Stylo administration. There, you can specify how much space should be kept around the display. The value is given as a percentage of the display width, so it is dynamic. Additionally, you can specify the transparency value with which the objects on the mounting area are displayed. The default is 20%.
