Controls
Navigation
Through the navigation of the properties dialog, you can choose the various options.
The extent of the functionality provided depends on the assigned rights.
Preview
At the bottom left of the dialog is the icon for the preview. When activated, you see the left icon; when deactivated, the eye is crossed out. By default, the preview functionality is turned off.
Values are only assigned when you
- press the "Assign" button or
- switch to another section within the properties.
Revert to original values
This is a "mini-undo" – with this button, you can revert to the values that were last assigned to the paragraph. This is helpful if you have tried various things and want to return to the original value without having to close the dialog.
Close
The properties dialog will be closed. Changes that have not yet been assigned will be lost. No confirmation will be requested.
Assign
The changes made will be assigned.
Basic
x
Position of the objects horizontally.
y
Position of the objects vertically.
Width
Specify the width for the selected objects. The width of the display is not changed by increasing the width of a text box.
Height
Specify the height for the selected objects. The height of the text box can also affect the display height. This is the case when the text box is variable and should influence the display height – which is the default setting. When changing heights via the menu or with the mouse, elements below the text box are not automatically moved. This only happens when a text box changes its height because text input has occurred.
Lock
If the lock is activated, the width and height are changed proportionally. For images that must not be distorted, the lock is deactivated.
Proportions are maintained:

Rotation
You can set the rotation angle of an object. The rotation is around the center of the object. To rotate, you can use the small point as a control element. It snaps in 45° increments. If exact values are to be entered, click on the value in the middle of the rotation input and enter the desired value there.
Text Box
Vertical Alignment
Indicates how the text is positioned within a text box. The vertical alignment can only be used if the text box has a fixed height. For variable text boxes, the vertical alignment is always "top". Options available: Top, Middle, Bottom.
Variable Height
If variable height is activated for a text box, the height is determined by the entered text. In normal mode, text boxes below are pushed up by the growing text box. If the design mode for a display is turned on, the height of the text box is changed when variable height is enabled – however, this does not affect other objects in the display.
If the option is turned off, the following setting values in the dialog are not visible.
Minimum Height
The minimum height specifies the minimum height for text boxes with variable height. A value entered here changes when the height of the text box is adjusted by dragging with the mouse.
Maximum Height
Specify the maximum height of a text box. If this is exceeded, an overflow line is displayed.
Variable Width
The text box adjusts, when the option is activated, to the text content. It grows from the defined minimum to the maximum width (which corresponds to the default value with which it was originally pulled).
Text boxes that have been assigned an automatic width cannot be changed manually.
If the option is turned off, the following setting values in the dialog are not visible.
Minimum Width
Specify the minimum width of the text box. In the example, this is marked as (1).
Maximum Width
In the field, you can specify the maximum width that the text box has. If this is reached, the text is wrapped to the next line, and the text box is not automatically enlarged. (2)
Alignment
The alignment indicates the reference point to which the text box is fixed. If "left" is activated, the position of the left edge is remembered; for "right," the position of the right edge is remembered. In the example, the object is anchored on the right side. (3)
Margin
In this section, the distance of the text from the edge of the text box can be defined.
Margin
The distance of the text from the edge can be set for all sides. If equal margins are turned off via the lock, fields appear to determine the margins for each side.
Indent Frame Lines
If this option is set, the line thickness is taken into account when calculating the text indent on the left, right, top, and bottom. If the line is set inward, the full line thickness is used; otherwise, half the line thickness is used.

Administration
Quotes
Specify the quote pool valid for the current text box.
Delete empty text boxes
If this option is activated, empty text boxes will no longer be displayed in Stylo. A text box is considered empty if there are no text characters in the frame and all user fields in this frame are hidden. If a text box is hidden because it is empty, the text boxes below it are pushed up. If the text box becomes visible again, e.g., by setting the user field to visible, the text boxes slide back to their old position. If you want to toggle "Show Hidden Empty Text Boxes," you can do so through the view options.
Return = ShiftReturn
If this option is set for a text box, a return is converted into a soft return during text entry. This is helpful, for example, for paragraphs with activated self-calculating indentation and for flowing sentences.
This option was introduced because self-calculating indentation is only intended for centered lines (soft return) within a paragraph. However, it can be assumed that the user is not aware of these fine nuances and usually presses return, so this text box property was implemented.
No Statistics
If this option is turned on, the text box will not be considered in the statistics calculation. This applies to the number of characters, words, and lines.
Placeholder Text
This function allows you to fill the text boxes within a template with example text that must be overwritten by the end user. This text is displayed in gray and completely overwritten as soon as the insertion point is placed in such a text box and typing begins. Stylo provides information through the statistics functions that unoverwritten placeholder text exists in a display.
The ServerRenderer does not take over placeholder text.
Crop
With these parameters, the crop can be specified through the display frame and the text box itself.
Three options are available. In the displayed examples, images are used as the effect is easier to recognize.
Crop at Display Frame
Normally, objects are cropped at the inner edge of the display frame. If you do not want this, you will find the switch at that point.
| On (Default): | Off: |
|---|---|
Crop at Inner Display Frame
If you have a multiple frame as a display frame, you can specify that the object is not cropped at the outer display frame but at the inner one. This option is usually disabled:
| On: | Off (Default): |
|---|---|
Crop at Own Inner Frame
If the selected object has its own multiple frame assigned, you can specify that the content is not cropped by the outer frame but by the inner one. This option is usually disabled:
| On: | Off (Default): |

Flexibility
This section contains settings for Vertical Alignment and Growing Height.
Vertical Alignment Settings
V-Factor Top
Vertical alignment factor for the distance upwards. The factor is an integer. The absolute value in the display results from the space to be distributed.
V-Factor Bottom
Vertical alignment factor for the distance downwards. The factor is an integer. The absolute value in the display results from the space to be distributed.
Distance Top
If you have text boxes that have been linked via the vertical alignment function, you can read and change the minimum distance between the predecessor object of the selected text box and the text box here. The value is entered there as soon as the vertical alignment group is fixed.
Distance Bottom
If you have text boxes that have been linked via the vertical alignment function, you can read and change the minimum distance between the successor object of the selected text box and the text box here. The value is entered there as soon as the vertical alignment group is fixed.
Growing Height
With this function, you can achieve that objects change their size depending on others.
Top
Specifies an offset value by which the growing height is increased upwards.
Bottom
Specifies an offset value by which the growing height is increased downwards.
Text Flow
Some graphic object types, such as text boxes, rectangles, ellipses, and images can be assigned text flow (contour set) so that the text flows around this object. Different distances can be entered for the various sides.
The contour guidance is always rectangular and only on one side of the object within a text column.
Type
Currently, the contour set can be turned on and off here. There is only the type "Outside".
Distance
Here you can specify what distance the text should have from the object. If the lock behind the distance value field is activated, you will have the option to specify the distances for the four individual sides.
Follow Shape of Object
Typically, the text flow follows the bounding box of the object – thus it is always rectangular. If you want the text to follow the actual shape of the figure, for example, in the case of an ellipse or a polygon, you select this option.
Double Contour
If this option is activated, the text does not run along one side as standard but flows along both sides of the object.
Graphics
Frame Lines Inside
The frames of new objects always grow inwards by default. If the default setting is turned off, the lines grow from the center inwards and outwards. This also makes the objects correspondingly larger, by one point for a 1pt line.
Influence on Display Height
If the option is set, a graphic object is considered when determining the height of the display. Otherwise, you can also place the object in the crop at the end of the display. Text boxes have this property by default; all other graphic objects do not.
Rights
At this point, the rights can be set. The following rights are available:
Position
If set, the objects can no longer be moved. Stylo displays a symbol that makes this clear:
Size
Objects cannot be manually enlarged or reduced if this parameter has been set by you.
Content
The content cannot be changed if the option has been activated by you. The fact that the content is unchangeable is indicated by a red keyboard symbol.
Delete
If this option is set, the object cannot be deleted. If an object has been protected from deletion, this is indicated to the user by a lock symbol.
Please note that these change restrictions are limitations that prevent the user from making manual changes (e.g., in dialogs, working with the mouse, or touch actions). Automatic changes, such as through text input or because other elements influence this object, are not affected.
