Controls
Navigation
Through the navigation of the properties dialog, you can choose the various options.
The extent of the functionality provided depends on the assigned rights.
Preview
At the bottom left of the dialog, there is the icon for the preview. When activated, you see the left icon; when deactivated, the eye is crossed out. By default, the preview functionality is turned off.
Values are only assigned when you
- press the "Assign" button or
- switch to another section within the properties.
Back to the original values
This is a "mini-undo" – with this button, you return to the values that were last assigned to the paragraph. This is helpful when you have tried various things and want to go back to the original value without having to close the dialog.
Close
The properties dialog will be closed. Changes that have not yet been assigned will be lost. No confirmation will be requested.
Assign
The changes made will be assigned.
Base
x
Position of the objects in the horizontal.
y
Position of the objects in the vertical.
Width
Specify the width for the selected objects. The width of the display is not changed by increasing the width of a text frame.
Height
Specify the height for the selected objects. The height of the text box can also affect the display height. This is the case when the text frame is variable and should influence the display height – which is the default setting. When changing heights via the menu or with the mouse, elements below the text box are not automatically moved. This only happens when a text frame changes its height because a text input has occurred.
Rotation
You can set the rotation angle of an object. The rotation occurs around the center of the object. You can use the small dot as a control element for rotation. It snaps in 45° increments. If exact values are to be entered, click on the value in the middle of the rotation input and enter the desired value there.
Image
In this section of the dialog, you can directly set or check the properties of the image.
Fitting
Specify how images are fitted into an image frame. The setting is evaluated when a change is made to the "Fit Image" mode or an image is imported into the image frame. The following options are available:
- Frame-filling (the image completely fills the image frame, possibly cutting off part of the image)
- Proportional (the whole image is visible in the frame, possibly leaving a margin at the top/bottom or left/right)
- Non-proportional (the image is fitted into the frame without cutting anything off or creating margins - it may be distorted)
- Variable frame height (the image is adjusted to the width of the frame, the height is derived)
- Variable frame width (the image is adjusted to the height of the frame, the width is derived)
Position
Specify how the image is fitted into an image frame. This setting is only evaluated if you have changed this attribute and assign the settings or import a new image into an image frame.
Scaling x/y
Shows the percentage by which the selected image has been enlarged or reduced. The bracket under the value shows whether the images may be changed in size non-proportionally.
Image resolution
Shows the current image resolution of the image.
Image identification
The image identification indicates whether an image comes from a pool, has been loaded into the Stylo document, or has been referenced.
Image ID
If the image is managed by an image database, the image ID of the imported element will be displayed here.
Administration
Name
Give the image frame a name if you want the images from the display to be transferred to another one during a pattern change.
Placeholder image
Images with this designation must be replaced by the user. Stylo informs the leading system if this has not occurred, so that a suitable warning (alternatively: error message) can be reacted to. Within Stylo, there is no indication if a placeholder image has not been replaced.
Direct upload
The upload button is available via the toolbar.
The behavior of the button differs from the "Upload Image" function. The focus here is on the property of the image frame "Direct Upload". This property on the image frame causes Stylo not to expect that the desired target image frame has been selected by the user. In a document, only one image frame can have this property.
| Direct upload set | Direct upload not set | |
|---|---|---|
| No image frame in the document | Message that an image frame must be selected | Message that an image frame must be selected |
| One image frame present | Upload possible without inquiry | Upload possible without inquiry |
| Multiple image frames present | Upload possible without inquiry | Message that an image frame must be selected |
The upload button does not affect background images of a display.
Crop
With these parameters, the crop can be specified through the display frame and the image frame itself.
Three options are available. The displayed examples use images as the effect is easier to recognize.
Crop at the display frame
Normally, objects are cropped at the inner edge of the display frame. If you do not want this, you will find the switch at that point.
| On (default): | Off: |
|---|---|
Crop at the inner display frame
If you have a multiple frame as a display frame, you can specify that the object is not cropped at the outer display frame but at the inner one. This option is usually disabled:
| On: | Off (default): |
|---|---|
Crop at the own inner frame
If the selected object has its own multiple frame assigned, you can specify that the content is not cropped by the outer frame but by the inner one. This option is usually disabled:
| On: | Off (default): |

Flexibility
This section contains settings for Vertical Alignment and growing height.
Vertical alignment settings
V-Factor top
Vertical alignment factor for the distance upwards. The factor is an integer. The absolute value in the display results from the space to be distributed.
V-Factor bottom
Vertical alignment factor for the distance downwards. The factor is an integer. The absolute value in the display results from the space to be distributed.
Distance top
If you have text frames that have been linked through the vertical alignment function, you can read and change the minimum distance between the predecessor object of the selected text frame and the text frame here. The value will be entered there as soon as the vertical alignment group has been fixed.
Distance bottom
If you have text frames that have been linked through the vertical alignment function, you can read and change the minimum distance between the successor object of the selected text frame and the text frame here. The value will be entered there as soon as the vertical alignment group has been fixed.
Growing height
With this function, you can achieve that objects change their size depending on others.
Top
Specifies an offset value by which the growing height is increased upwards.
Bottom
Specifies an offset value by which the growing height is increased downwards.
Death Cross
Death crosses can be created in Stylo either through lines or through an image. If the death cross is created through an image (see next section), this function can achieve that the end of the death cross (or image) is repeated.
To use the function, activate "Death Cross Active" and then define the "End Offset," which indicates which part of the image is repeated from the bottom.
The advantage of this approach is that the image is not distorted.
Text wrapping
Some graphic object types, such as text frames, rectangles, ellipses, and images can be assigned text wrapping (contour setting) so that the text wraps around this object. Different distances can be entered for the various sides.
The contour guidance is always rectangular and only on one side of the object within a text column.
Type
Currently, the contour setting can be turned on and off through this. There is only the type "Outside".
Distance
Here you can specify what distance the text should have from the object. If the bracket behind the distance value field is pressed, you will get the option to specify the distances for the four individual sides.
Follow the shape of the object
Usually, the text wrapping follows the bounding box of the object – thus it is always rectangular. If you want the actual shape of the figure to be followed, for example with an ellipse or a polygon, you select this option.
Double-sided contour
If this option is activated, the text will not run along one side as in the default, but will run along both sides of the obstruction.
Graphics
Frame lines inside
The frames of new objects always grow inwards by default. If the default setting is turned off, the lines grow from the center inwards and outwards. This also makes the objects correspondingly larger, by one point for a 1pt line.
Influence on display height
If the option is set, a graphic object is taken into account when determining the height of the display. Otherwise, the object can also be placed in the cut-off at the end of the display. Text frames have this property by default; all other graphic objects do not.
Rights
At this point, the rights can be defined. The following rights are available:
Position
If set, the objects can no longer be moved.
Size
Objects cannot be manually enlarged or reduced if this parameter has been set by you.
Content
The content cannot be changed if the option has been activated by you.
Delete
If this option is set, the object cannot be deleted.
Aspect ratio
If you have set this setting, the image can only be changed proportionally.
Please note that these change restrictions are limitations that prevent the user from making manual changes (e.g., in dialogs, working with the mouse, or touch actions). Automatic changes, for example, due to text input or because other elements influence this object, are not affected.
